Deconstructing Masculinity

Our Purpose

The FLM Deconstructing Masculinity Program is dedicated to raising consciousness for men around disrupting and dismantling patriarchy, sexism, misogynoir, and violence done to women, queer and trans people using an intersectional lens, in order to make an impact on recreating a society that is free from male dominance.

Men’s Accountability Group

From the Fall of 2019 through the Fall of 2020 we held Pushing Back on Patriarchy, a weekly accountability group of cisgender men working to unpack the harmful and often violent performance of normative masculinity internally and in our communities.

We Inform, Disrupt, and Reflect Continually:

This space was created for learning, understanding, vulnerability, deep reflection, and true accountability. We learn from one another and from the myriad Black, Indigenous, and other women and gender non-conforming people of color who have been doing this work for much too long. We intend for this group to serve as a place of reckoning for men to do this necessary work on themselves, rather than that labor continually falling on women, queer, and trans folk.

We Encourage People to Come as They Are:

We are men who feel the sincere need to unlearn, relearn, and better show up for our communities. None of us have all of the answers, but collectively we can find them. None of us are perfect all of the time, but we must intentionally work to be accountable to the values of justice and liberation. So come as you are, ready to learn, be critical, and work collectively to show up authentically and disrupt systems of patriarchy, misogynoir, cisheteronormativity, sexism, and transphobia.
