Theory Of Change

Cycle of Liberation

Empowering Young People

FLM recognizes and celebrates the value of young people, not simply in what they will do years from now but in the present, and as such should be involved in building a just future.

Consciousness Raising

Going beyond raising awareness, FLM builds the consciousness of marginalized groups through political education, highlighting histories, struggles, and counter-storytelling. Consciousness-raising is returning agency to marginalized people.

FLM also raises the consciousness of the historically privileged –those who maintain power and remain willfully ignorant of the lived realities of the oppressed. Pushing them to confront these structures while also encouraging them to act in favor of a world where all people can flourish.

Disrupting Oppression

Each of FLM’s programs is intentionally cultivated to disrupt cycles of socialization that uphold and perpetuate systems of oppression. FLM intervenes on these cycles with culturally relevant and age-appropriate practices to channel a cycle of liberation.

Dreaming Radically

FLM views the need for those passionate about justice, liberation, and equity to dream of the world they wish to see. Change is imperative and possibilities are endless. Too often, freedom fighters get caught up in the nuances of the latest campaign, forgetting the radical potential of their dreams. We at FLM do not see taking action and dreaming as mutually exclusive, each are equally pivotal for fundamental change. We must work to build the world we want to see while simultaneously dismantling the systems that do us harm.

Liberation

The realization of generational work – the product of radical dreams brought to fruition by the power of the people.
